St. Joseph Abuja

On August 04 2008, the discussion on an Abuja (capital of Nigeria) Mission took flesh; two friars were sent to take residence there – Peter Nwachukwu and Joseph Akaa. This would not have been if not for the heroic hospitality of the Eremionkhale Family (Innocent [Barrister] and Patricia Eremionkhale). This couple gave shelter and food to our brothers for almost four months. Thus among the top issues on our agenda has been to speedily secure an accommodation of our own for our Friars.

Thanks to God, we are now privileged owners of a house at Abuja. We got the documents allocating the said house to us on August 29, 2008 and have since already applied for the required permission to fence and renovate it. The very next day we ‘took possession’ of it.
Meanwhile our large piece of land in Jikwoyi Abuja is awaiting development. There we hope to build a retreat/ conference/ youth centre.
Presently, the Community is made up of: Jerome Ituah (Prior), Peter Nwachukwu and Luke Orakwelu.
Recently, the Archbishop of Abuja through a letter which was dated June 09, 2009 – feast of the Sacred Heart, authorized us to run Christ the King Parish Kurudu, Abuja.
We thank our brother-benefactors, the provincial and his predecessor and their various teams, with whose assistance and blessing this mission is gradually sinking its roots. Thanks to our other benefactors, known or unknown.
And in a very special way, thanks to Barrister Innocent Eremionkhale, our brother, our friend, our lawyer, our host. Same special thanks to his wife Patricia Eremionkhale, our sister, our friend, our bank agent, our host, and permit me to say, our cook. She would rather report late to office than fail to get our meals ready. We hope and pray that this divinely generous family will continue to enjoy the spiritual benefits not only of our community in Abuja but of the Discalced Carmelite Order everywhere.
